Volleyball body announces to organize nat’l, int’l tournaments

KATHMANDU, July 29: Nepal School Volleyball Commission has announced to organize junior volleyball tournaments of national and international levels for the first time in Nepal. The commission however didn’t give any date for the international tournament.

President of the commission, Ram Bahadur KC, while presenting the organization’s annual programs on Saturday, announced that Nepal will participate in an international tournament or a friendly of U-18 and U-16 levels. KC said that the commission will leave no stone unturned to successfully organize the ambitious events.

Likewise, the commission informed about their plan of forming U-18 and U-16 teams of both girl’s and boy’s and appoint coaches for regular trainings for them.

The commission said that U-18 boy’s and girl’s national tournament will start on October 29 and conclude on November 4, and the interschool U-16 girl’s and boy’s volleyball tournament will take place on any date during mid-March to mid-April.

The commission meanwhile rewarded men’s volleyball national team, which won bronze in the third AVC Central Zone Senior Volleyball Championship held in the Maldives.

The commission rewarded each member of the team with Rs 3,000.
Nepal played the tournament under the captaincy of Im Rana Magar. Mahendra Shrestha (vice captain), Ishwar Thapa, Dhan Bahadur Bhatta, Maan Bahadur Shrestha, Narendra Giri, Bhairab Bahadur Bam, Raj Kumar Niraula, Hari Bahadur Adhikari, Kul Bahadur Thapa, Dil Bahadur Sunar and Durga Prasad Mahato were other players of the team.
Birendra Chaudhary was the main coach of Nepali team while Jagadish Bhatta was the assistant coach.

President of Nepal Volleyball Association (NBA), Manoranjan Raman Sharma said that the initiatives taken by the commission will help in the development of volleyball in Nepal.
Vice President of the commission, Kumar Rai said that the age group tournament is equally important for the development of volleyball in the country. On the occasion, the commission formed its Kathmandu Working Committee headed by JB Adhikari.
