DANG, Dec 4: Government Spokesperson Shankar Pokharel on Saturday accused Speaker Subas Nembang of not carrying out his duties responsibly.

Speaking at function organized by Press Chautari, Pokharel claimed that though it is the responsibility of the speaker to resolve disputes in parliament, Nembang has been evading duties by blaming others for his failure.[break]

“The crisis has remained unresolved due to the tendency of blaming others,” said Pokharel. “Everyone has their own duties and it is inappropriate to blame others for one´s own failure.”

Pokharel also said the House session would be called as soon as the Maoists express their commitment to parliamentary procedures. He claimed that the Maoists had compelled the government to prorogue the parliamentary session by committing a “heinous” crime in parliament.

“The Maoist had committed a crime. Nobody has the right to destroy a confidential government document,” he said. “Therefore the next session would not be summoned unless commitments come from the Maoists.”

He also noted that the ongoing deadlock would only be resolved through unification of ultra-leftist (Maoist), leftist (CPN-UML) and democratic forces, adding the Maoist should change their conduct for this to happen.
