24 physically challenged people died in quake

DAMAK, May 18: Some 24 physically challenged persons across the country are known to have died due to the notorious April 25 quake, also known as the Gorkha quake.

Many of them are learnt to have died as they were buried under the rubbles, shared Birendra Kumar Pokharel, former President of the National Federation of the Disabled-Nepal.


According to him, of total differently-able persons deceased, Rasuwa district records the highest toll, standing at seven.

Similarly, four each disable persons are reported to have died in Sindhupalchowk and Gorkha district while Dhading records the death toll of differently-able ones at five.

Likewise, two each such persons are learnt to have died in Bhaktapur and Dolakha.

Some 425 physically challenged persons have sustained injuries due to the 7.6-magnitude quake.

Of total number of injured that has surpassed 22,000, as many as 3,000 persons are at high risk of becoming permanently disabled due to the injuries they suffered in the quake, Pokharel added. RSS
