KATHMANDU, Jan 10: The government has planned to provide social security allowance to as high as 6 million citizens within the coming five years. As planned by the government, the social security would be doled out to senior citizens, Dalits, single women, physically challenged people, members from the endangered community and children from target class and areas.
Likewise, all Nepali people working at home and abroad, and self-employed would be brought under the ambit of contribution-based social security while the laborers’ record system would be initiated through the Employment Information Centre in the local level under the Prime Minister Employment Programme.
Digitization of social allowance in progress
As stated in the government’s common minimum program, the records of the laborers would be maintained and all types of allowances would be hiked on the basis of economic growth and the minimum wages would be made Rs 25,000 per month.
Similarly, efforts would be taken to make foreign employment safe, secured and dignified and special efforts would be taken to revise the laws and terms and conditions to ensure welfare of the Nepali workers working in different countries of destination.
Also efforts would be taken to shift the status of undocumented migrant workers into documented ones and a hotline service would be put in place to address the issues of Nepali migrant workers.
