KATHMANDU, August 5: Child Marriage and Dowry Eradication National Campaign, Nepal on Friday felicitated 24 individuals from across the country for fighting against child marriage and dowry system.
Secretary at the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, Khaga Raj Baral, honored them amid a program in Kathmandu. Secretary Baral honored Kunti Bhatta of Baitadi, Priyanka Harijan of Rupandehi, Sunita Kahar of Kapilvastu, Seema KM of Pyuthan, Nagendra Sah of Dhanusha, Binod Joshi of Kailali, Nanda Kishor Yadav of Mahottari, Sushil Kushwaha of Sarlahi, Chandan Kumar Yadav of Siraha, Mohammad Ansari of Bara, and Sunil Kumar Sharaff of Bara for fighting against child marriage.

Similarly, Safalta Bhandari of Sindhupalchowk, Karuna Jha of Saptari, Hira Singh Thapa of Dailekh, Ramananda Dube of Kapilvastu, Nabin Mishra of Dhanusha, Prakash Prasad Tharu of Parsa, Brijeshwor Prasad Chaudhary of Parsa and Dr CK Singh of Saptari were also honored for playing a vital role in the campaign against child marriage.
Likewise, Girls Not Brides, UNICEFF Nepal, DFID Nepal, Dr Raju Babu Shrestha, Nepal Police headquarters and Dr Kiran Rupakheti of National Planning Commission were also felicitated for their institutional contribution for the campaign.
Even in the 21st century, child marriage and dowry system is still rampant in various districts of Nepal.
