Speaking at a news conference at Dhangadhi, Dr Bhattarai stressed the need for forging a fresh agreement similar to the 12-point agreement reached in the past among major political parties in the country. [break]
“Just consensus is not enough. Now there is a need for forging agreement on a new agenda. All should come to a meeting point by compromising on some of their stances,” said Dr Bhattarai.
Dr Bhattarai claimed that there could be consensus among parties within 24 hours should the Nepali Congress (NC) prime ministerial candidate Ram Chandra Paudel withdrew his candidacy.
During an interaction with industrialists, businessmen and intellectuals in Dhangadhi, he argued that there is no alternative to forming a Maoist-led government to end the deadlock. He also warned that the country could witness mass revolt if the current deadlock remains.
He said that other parties were trying to sideline the Maoists even after the resignation of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.
On the occasion, Dr Bhattarai also said that Nepal cannot be a sovereign country unless the Sugauli treaty is amended. He argued that Nepal used to export huge amount of goods before the treaty but now imports from India is seven times higher than what Nepal exports to India.
Let’s live in peace and embrace diversity
