The EC recently started registering voters only on the basis of citizenship certificates. The new voters´ identity card to be issued will include biometric identification along with a photograph
"The registration process should be stopped until the problem of citizenship is resolved in Madhes," he said. "Else, anything can happen. People will come out on the street. They will rebel."
Yadav argued that that new voters´ registration process should be resumed only after deploying new teams to distribute citizenship certificates.
Voter registration disrupted in Biratnagar
Voter registration process in Biratnagar has been disrupted due to obstruction by Madhesi parties, Friday.
Agitating cadres of the parties had obstructed officials from taking photographs and collecting voter information in various wards of Biratnagar Sub-Metropolitan City.
“The process of collecting names has been stopped in various three wards following obstruction from the cadres of Madhesi parties,” said Binod Kumar Dahal, chief of Election Office, Morang.
Dahal said they are planning to resume the registration process after a few days.
According to Dipak Thapa, chief of Morang District Police Office, voter registration process in 10 other wards in the metropolis is continuing without any obstruction. He said that police have been deployed at registration centers keeping in view possible protests by Madhesi parties.
