226,000 security personnel to be deployed for local poll

KATHMANDU, March 2: Altogether 226,000 security personnel from Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army will be deployed to provide security during the upcoming local level election.

KATHMANDU, March 2: Altogether 226,000 security personnel from Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army will be deployed to provide security during the upcoming local level election. 


A meeting of the Central Security Committee on Wednesday afternoon took the decision as outlined in the Local Level Election Security Plan 2073/74, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi’s press coordinator Ramji Dahal.

The government has already announced to hold the local level election across the country on May 14. The Security Committee meeting chaired by Nidhi endorsed the Security Plan after discussing it in detail.

The government plans to deploy 54,000 personnel from Nepal Police, 30,000 from APF, 1,000 from NID, while NA personnel would provide back up security cover. The government plans to recruit around 75,000 temporary police personnel for the poll purpose.


Speaking on the occasion, Minister Nidhi directed the chiefs of all security agencies to work in line with the security plan after making necessary logitistical and other preparations.


Home Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi, Defense Secretary Shree Dhar Sapkota, Acting Chief of Nepal Police Dr Dinesh Chandra Pokharel, Armed Police Force Chief Singha Bahadur Shrestha, Chief of National Investigation Department Dilip Regmi and Lieutenant General of Nepal Army Baldev Raj Mahat were among those present in the meeting.
