CHITWAN, Jan 22: As many as 22 rhinos were found dead in Chitwan National Park (CNP) in the past seven months, according to park authorities.
Lokendra Adhikari, information officer at the park, said that a 1.6-month-old male rhino was found dead on Wednesday at the local Purano Padampur area. The rhino could have died due to severe cold; he said adding that doctors are trying to ascertain the reasons behind the death.
Adhikari said that a 30-year-old male rhino was found dead around Belsaharghat area located inside the park on Thursday afternoon. "It died of natural reasons," he said.
Horns and hoofs of both rhinos were recovered and have been kept at the CNP, according to him.
A three-month-old rhino was also found dead in Nawalparasi district inside the park earlier this month.
Of the dead rhinos found on the CNP premises, four were killed by poachers in the past seven months. The CNP authorities have intensified patrol to control the poachers.
