He secured 404 of the total 703 votes cast in the voting held on Sunday. His rival Bhupendra Bahadur Thapa, who is close to Sushil Koirala, secured 282 votes.
Sunday´s voting was held again after none of the candidates contesting for president could secure 51 percent of the total votes in the previous voting.
Krishna Neupane and Debendra Khatri were elected in the post of secretary and treasurer, respectively, in the earlier round of voting.
