According to the official website of the Youth Olympic Games, Tharu finished fifth in the heat-2 and 14th in aggregate, which qualified him for next round. Tharu on Wednesday clocked 11.21 seconds, which is his personal best. Tharu´s earlier timing was 11.80 seconds.
Tharu is yet to compete in 200 m race on Thursday. Manisha Adhikari in women´s 400 m and Bishworupa Budha in women´s 3000 m failed to cross the heat round on Tuesday.
National Women´s Volleyball in September
Kaski District Volleyball Association (KDVA) is planning to organize the First Invitational National Women´s Volleyball Tournament for the first time in Pokhara in late September.
The tournament slated for September 29 to October 2 will see participation of eight teams, including four schools.
It will be held in a league-cum-knockout format. KDVA president Anil Singh announced at a press conference on Wednesday that the top three teams will receive cash prizes of Rs 75,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
Thapa, Rai pull it off
Debu Thapa of Nepal Police and Ranju Rai of Parsa made it through to the final round of selection for the 16th Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou, China. In women´s U-63 kg selection, Thapa defeated Rai and Chonu Gurung of Bhanubhakta while Rai beat Chonu Gurung to secure a place in the final round.
The second phase selection of other weight categories has already been completed. But the U-63 kg selection was not held along with other weight categories due to technical problems, stated Nepal Judo Association. Two male and female players each will be selected for Asiad from the event. The final selection will be held on September 1.
