KATHMANDU, Dec 16: The second edition of Hult Prize at Kathmandu University (KU) was organized successfully by a team of Kathmandu University students on December 12, at KU premises in Dhulikhel. 

According to the press statement released by KU, four teams out of 48 participating teams progressed to the final round after the first preliminary pitching round. The top four ideas were then selected by a panel of 12 judges in the final round of the 2018 Hult Prize at Kathmandu University On-Campus Finals. Team So Po Co, a team of three MBA students from KUSOM, won the final competition and will be representing Kathmandu University in the Regional’s Finals in March, 2018. 

The statement quoted Pramila Ramtel, outreach and promotion coordinator of Hult Prize at Kathmandu University, as saying, “Info-sessions were organized throughout November for students of all schools of Kathmandu University to help them learn about Hult Prize, the impact it has created in the world, the on campus event and this year’s challenge.” 

After an intense mentorship session on December 2, all participating teams progressed to the on-campus finals. Four teams to make into the final round from each pitch room were team Neonoid, team Sambhav, team So Po Co and team Aqua. Team So Po Co gloriously secured the first position. Their idea was to make an impact on people’s lives by developing a solar powered system integrated with a digital signage. Team Sambhav, team Aqua and team Neonoid secured second, third and fourth positions respectively.  

“Today, some of us are pitching to solve the problems related to health, education and mobility, but together we are all trying to create a huge impact in the society. This brings out the good in us, and this is the impact of Hult Prize,” Gaurab Dahal, campus director of Hult Prize at KU, addressed the crowd of more than 200 participants in the opening ceremony, according to the press statement.
