2 protesters injured in Nawalparasi firing

KATHMANDU, Aug 26: A confrontattion between police and demonstrators in the district headquarters of Nawalparasi on Wednesday ended up with two protestors getting injured in the clash.



Protestors had tried to breach the prohibited zone in the district, following which police opened fire.

The injured are 50-year-old Bihari Dhobi and 40-year-old Mahila Munni Kalwar.


"The police force stopped the protesters while they were trying to enter the prohibited zone Parasi," Chief District Officer Hari Prasad Mainali told Republica.


According to him, the security personnel resorted to firing after repeated warnings, teargas canisters and shots in the air could not contain the mob.

The clash took place at Maheshpur Chowk of Bhumahi-Bhairahawa road section.

The injured are undergoing treatment at Bhairahawa-based Medical College, said CDO Mainali . The curfew has been enforced around the district headquarters Parasi and in the area between Basa Chowk to Sunwal in the west, Mainali said.
