2,428 new COVID-18 cases detected on Thursday, caseload hits 292,152

KATHMANDU, April 22: Nepal on Thursday confirmed 2,428 new cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the past 24 hours.

According to the daily COVID-19 updates released by the health ministry, 2,365 people were diagnosed with the viral disease through 10,001 RT-PCR tests and 62 others through 447 antigen tests.

This has taken the country’s COVID-19 casetally to 292,152 of which 276,345 have gained recovery while 3,117 succumbed to the disease since its detection in Nepal in January, 2020.

The ministry shared that 12,690 people are yet to recover from the disease and are receiving treatment for the disease being isolated.

COVID-19 crisis exacerbating in capital

Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Valley, where the country’s capital city lies, added … new cases of the disease. In the wake of the outspread of the second wave of the infection, Kathmandu district confirmed 987 cases while 106 others tested positive for the virus in Lalitpur. Similarly, 81 new cases were detected in Bhaktapur.

Banke, another COVID-19 hotspot

As many as 277 additional cases were confirmed in Banke district alone. As of Thursday morning, the district reported 6,114 cases including 67 deaths.
