19 districts to be connected to optical fiber network within a year

KATHMANDU, Feb 7: Works to lay down optic fiber network in 19 districts in three provinces of western Nepal began from Wednesday.


Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has given the task of installing optic fiber network in Province 5, Karnali Province and Sudur Pashchim Province to Smart Telecom. NTA is implementing the project by utilizing funds collected in Rural Telecommunication Development Fund (RTDF).

Smart Telecom is working with CCS (China Communication Service) Nepal in this project.


The project will install optical fiber network in Banke and Bardiya of Province 5; and Surkhet, Dailekh, Jajarkot, Jumla, Dolpa, Kalikot, Mugu, Humla, Achham, Bajura, Bajhang, Doti, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Dadeldhura, Baitadi and Darchula of Karnali and Sudur Pashchim provinces within a year.


Under the project, 2,500 kilometers of fiber will be laid through 19 districts along roads that connect respective headquarters of these districts with major highways.
