Drukpa awarded with Bharat Jyoti

KATHMANDU, May 26: The India International Friendship Society (IIFS) awarded Gyalwang Drukpa, who heads Druk Amitabha Mountain Temple in Kathmandu, with the prestigious Bharat Jyoti award. The award was conferred on Gyalwang on Wednesday in New Delhi, said a statement issued by Drukpa Publications.



IIFS, one of India´s leading voluntary organizations, has awarded many eminent personalities, including Mother Teresa, in the past.



"This award re-establishes the contribution of His Holiness towards the betterment of society and spreading the message of live to love among people in the world, especially in areas of promoting gender equality, protecting environment and preserving cultural and social heritages in the Himalayas," the statement added.
