SPORTS BRIEFS: Both titles for Prime

KATHMANDU, May 19: Prime College clinched the title of the Fifth Sprite Basketball Tournament in both the boys´ and girls´ categories on Wednesday.



In the boys´ final, Prime defeated Golden Gate 54-44. Binod Shrestha contributed 13 points for Prime. Manoj Sherchan of Golden Gate was adjudged the most valuable player (MVP). [break]



Meanwhile, in the girls´ final, Prime ousted Golden Gate 38-21. Preeti Tulachan and Nayana Shakya both scored 10 points each in Prime´s victory. Gyanu Gauchan of Prime was declared the MVP.



The matches were held at the court of Kathmandu College of Management, Gwarko.





Police, Army in semis



KATHMANDU, May 19: Nepal Police and Army advance into the semifinals of the National Open Men´s Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday.



Police defeated the hosts Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Center´s Team A 25-18, 25-14, 25-21 in straight sets while Army edged out G Four Sports Club 25-11, 25-18, 27-25.







Likewise, Workers Martyrs Memorial Club ousted Team B of the hosts 25-19, 25-15, 25-23.



Meanwhile, in the Laxminarayan Shrestha Memorial Cup Open Women´s Volleyball Tournament, New Diamond entered the semifinals thrashing Bijeshwari 25-9, 25-6, 25-9.





Valley Public, TIA in final



KATHMANDU, May 19: The senior girls´ basketball teams of Valley Public and TIA advanced into the final of the Second Angels´ Heart Sports Festival on Wednesday.



Valley Public hammered Ganesh School 26-4 to set up the title clash with TIA who thrashed the hosts Angels´ Heart 32-10. Anusha Malla scored the highest 18 points for TIA while Laxmi Shrestha contributed 11 points for Valley Public.



Meanwhile, the junior boys´ teams of Golden Peak and Valley Public entered the final after defeating Greenland 20-17 and Gyan Niketan 22-13, respectively.





Baidya to attend ITTF meeting



KATHMANDU, May 19: All Nepal Table Tennis Association President Chaturananda Baidya will participate in the general assembly of International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) scheduled to be held in Moscow, Russia from May 23 to 30.



The 206 member nations of ITTF will attend the general assembly, which will sanction proposal of the Asian Table Tennis Union to support Nepal.
