Consensus through constitutional process: Pokharel

KATHMANDU, May 8: Minister for Information and Communications Shankar Pokhrel on Saturday thanked the Unified CPN (Maoist) for withdrawing its general strike unilaterally.



Taking to RSS he said decision to withdraw the general strike has helped resume the dialogue with the parties. [break]



He termed that Maoist movement was merely a problem and clarified that the government was effortful to resolve the deadlock on the basis of constitutional procedures after forging national consensus.



Pokhrel said the Maoist should be responsible to create environment for national consensus through meaningful talks.



He said the power centric consensus would not end the existing political stalemate. He added consensus should be made on PLA combatants’ integration and their maximum numbers, and their rehabilitation within a fixed deadline.



He was of the opinion that consensus met by keeping the weapons and combatants in the same condition was inappropriate both politically and constitutionally. He said such consensus would only revive conflict and urged all sides concerned to be serious and responsible.
