Constitutional Council meeting on Sunday to discuss filling vacancies at various constitutional bodies

KATHMANDU, Dec 10: A meeting of the Constitutional Council will take place coming Sunday to discuss filling longstanding vacancies at various constitutional bodies including the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Election Commission (EC), National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and National Women's Commission (NWC).

KATHMANDU, Dec 10: A meeting of the Constitutional Council will take place coming Sunday to discuss filling longstanding vacancies at various constitutional bodies including the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Election Commission (EC), National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and National Women's Commission (NWC).


There are currently 45 vacant posts at these constitutional bodies. The CIAA, EC, NHRC and NWC are headless and the posts of commissioners are also vacant in these commissions.


Various positions have fallen vacant at the Public Service Commission and National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission.

According to a source close to the prime minister, the meeting has been scheduled for 9AM on December 13.


As per constitutional provisions, the prime minister must inform the members of the Constitutional Council about the agenda to be discussed and its timing 48 hours before the meeting.


The meeting will be held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence in Baluwatar.


The council is headed by the Prime Minister and its members include the leader of main opposition, speaker of the House of Representatives, chairman of the National Assembly, deputy speaker of the lower house and law minister as members.
