"Many students found it difficult to make it to their exam centers as vehicular movement has completely been brought to a standstill,” Devi Prasad Barakoti, the Controller of Examinations of HSEB told Republica. “Besides, the Maoist cadres disrupted exams at dozens of centers across the country. We, therefore, decided to indefinitely postpone the exams.”
According to Barakoti, HSEB will fix another date for those students who failed to take exams on Friday and Sunday. “Students need not fear. We will fix dates for exams once the situation returns to normalcy.”
Maoist cadres disrupted exams in over 200 centers across the country. In the Kathmandu valley alone, exams were disrupted in over half-a-dozen exam centers. The Maoist cadres who stormed into different centers tore apart examinees´ answer sheets.
In Mahendranagar, a policeman, Pushkar Kunwar, was injured after Maoist cadres hurled stones at him. The Maoist cadres threw stones in centers in Panchthar as well. In response to the Maoists´ disturbances, examinees compelled to walk out of exam centers took to the streets in many districts.
In Dharan, students gathered at Bhanu Chowk and shouted slogans against the Maoists. "Why are the Maoists toying with our future?" Bhoj Kumar Shreshtha, who joined other agitating students with his torn answer sheets, fumed.
