Addressing a program organized in the capital on Friday, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Baral, vice president of the Nepal Cancer Relief Society said that some 17 thousand people die of cancer and most of them are women who suffer from breast and uterus cancer. [break]
Dr. Prakash Raj Neupane, chief of the Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital said that the number of cancer patients is increasing due to smoking, use of alcoholic drinks and tobacco. Public awareness campaign should be launched to lessen the number of the patients, he added.
Ashok Bhurtel, representative of World Health Organization (WHO), Krishna Chandra Poudel, under secretary at the National Health Education and Communication Centre and Tejendra Nath Shrestha, chairman of the Restaurant and Bar Association of Nepal said that the Act on Control and Regulation of Tobacco Related Products -2011 should be implemented strongly to lessen their use.
