16 companies in bad books of govt

KATHMANDU, March 24: The government has filed 21 cases against 16 companies for the production and distribution of unhygienic food in the market. The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DFTQC) has lodged the cases at the District Administration Office (DAO) in the second quarterly of the ongoing fiscal year.



The DFTQC has lodged a case against Dairy Development Corporation (DDC), a fully state owned corporation, for the production of substandard milk products. The DFTQC found problems in the samples of DDC dairy products. [break]



The DFTQC conducted quality test on food samples collected by food inspectors. Among the samples the DFTQC found problem mainly in ghee, oil, milk, mineral water and spices.



Similarly, the DFTQC has lodged cases against Sushil Vanaspati Udhyog, Nirban Vanaspati Udhyog, Sagarmatha Food and Beverage, Aqua Mineral Private Limited, Dairy Development Corporation, Balaju and Him Hiun Beverage Private Limited.



Likewise, The DFTQC has filed cases against Pancharatna Group Private Limited, Manakamana Vegetable and Oil Pvt Ltd, Kanchanjangha Baby Mineral Water Pvt Ltd, Barun Bevrage Pvt Ltd and Sharan Kumar Mashala Udhyog.



According to DFTQC, the DAO has fined some companies. Saurav Food Products, Saurav Oil Pvt Ltd and Gyan Food Product Pvt Ltd have been fined Rs 1,000 each for not following minimum standard of the government. Likewise, Swastik Oil Industries has been fined Rs 8,000.
