KATHMANDU, May 15: Daily life has been affected by the transportation closure on the Mechi Highway. Due to the closure, movement of long as well as short-distance vehicles has been disrupted.
The shutdown has affected daily life in Illam, Panchthar, Taplejung, and Jhapa districts. Various organizations and groups announced the shutdown in response to the issue of deforestation in the area of Pathibhara (Mukulum), Taplejung, to construct a cable car.
The protestors claim that the cable car project is being forcefully carried out by cutting down trees at the center of faith for general public as well as Yakthung, Limbu community.
They have called the shutdown in the area of Tamor corridor and Taplejung along with Mechi Highway for today and tomorrow (Wednesday and Thursday).
