Those organizing the press conference included NC General Secretary KB Gurung, Central Member Govinda Raj Joshi, Binaya Dhwaj Chanda, Sunil Kumar Bhandari and Chief Whip Laxman Ghimire.
The NC leaders visited Bara, Rautahat, Sarlahi, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Siraha, Saptari, Sunsari, Morang, Parsa and Makawanpur and held interactions with village-level party cadres in a first phase of visits that began on January 27. They visited Nawalparasi, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali and Kanchanpur districts in the second phase of their visits.
NC Central Member Joshi said the party cadres felt hurt on coming across news reports that the party is going to cooperate with the Maoists in a coalition government. He said that village-level cadres are miffed at the failure of the party leadership to take any initiative to help return properties seized by the Maoists and control excesses by Maoist Young Communist League (YCL) cadres at the village level.
Joshi also said that party cadres are in favor of holding the party´s general convention before the promulgation of the new constitution. Party activists complained that there had not been a fair distribution of party active memberships for the purpose of the general convention.
The leaders also said party activists criticized the party leadership for failing to develop a clear concept about the country´s federal model and the weakness on the part of the party in playing an active role to promulgate the constitution within the stipulated date of May 28, 2010.
They reiterated that the Maoists combatants should be managed and displaced people should be able to return to their respective villages before a new constitution is promulgated.
