14 injured in picnic brawl

UDAYAPUR, Oct 26: Fourteen people including seven girls were injured in a brawl between picnic-goers at Shivalaya temple in Dhimki of Triyuga Municipality-2 on Monday afternoon.



Among the injured, Pushpa Adhikari, 22, and his sister Usha Adhikari, 17, are in critical condition, police said. They are undergoing treatment at Suryodaya Hospital in Udayapur and have regained consciousness, Dr Saroj Kandel said. Mahesh Ranamagar, 20, Ishwar Tamang, Ashok Pandey, 21, Sanjeev Karki, 19, all from Lalpatta in Triyuga Municipality-11, are also being treated at the hospital.



Others injured in the brawl are Chandeshwar Sah, 12, Pinki Yadav, 14, Savitra BK, 3, Parvina Khatun, 11, Ratna Kumari Chaudhary, 15, Phool Kumari Das, 19, Gyanelal Pandit, 16 and Keshav Dahal, 23, all of Jaljale. They are undergoing treatment at District Hospital, Udayapur, police said.



Three different groups were on picnic at the spot when one of the groups suddenly attacked others with khukuris, iron rods and stones, the victims said. They have accused one Baide Sahani of attacking them.



Police inspector Mahendra Thapa said they were searching for the attackers. It was found that three different groups from Lalpatta, Gaighat and Jaljale had gone there for picnic, Thapa added, but it is not known which group initiated the attack.



Gaighat bazaar remained tense following the incident.
