“I had no idea what to do after hearing that my daughter won gold; she made the whole nation proud by winning first goal for the nation,” said Maharjan who got the news at 1:00 p.m.
Later, Maharjan offered laddu at Ganeshthan and received a phone call from Binita on his way to Mhaipy temple. Maharjan remembered Binita´s coach Panchaman Maharjan after the win and congratulated him. “He owes the credit for this victory.”
“I am still unable to believe that she won the gold,” said an emotional Panchaman. “I have been training her since 6-7 years while she was a student at Jaljala School. Wushu was compulsory in Jaljala but she could not become an international player while she was in school.”
“I always inspired her to play and used to take her everyday to the central wushu quan in Dasharath Stadium, for training,” Maharjan said.
Maharjan has told his daughter that a wushu player needs to learn Chinese language as well. Binita has shown her keen interest in learning the language.
Binita had asked her father to buy her a computer before leaving for SAG. Maharjan, who is on cloud nine after his daughter´s win, is ready to grant her wish. “She has achieved such a great feat. I will surely buy her a computer,” he said.
Before her departure to Dhaka at the airport, Maharjan had asked his daughter, “What medal will you bring?” And she had replied, “I´m sure to win bronze, but if I could do well in dragon action I will win gold.”
Her dream surely seems to have come true.
