South Asian Games Gold medalist weightlifter Chaudhary found dead

KATHMANDU, May 10: Weightlifter and gold medalist of the 13th South Asian Games, Sanju Chaudhary, has been found dead today.

KATHMANDU, May 10: Weightlifter and gold medalist of the 13th South Asian Games, Sanju Chaudhary, has been found dead today. 


Superintendent of Police at the District Police Range, Lalitpur, Siddhi Bikram Shah said that Chaudhary was found hanging inside her room.

DSP Shah shared that her room was locked from inside, saying as per the preliminary investigation, she might have committed suicide. Shah said that further investigation would reveal the truth behind the incident. 


Chaudhary's body has been taken to Patan Hospital for a postmortem examination. Weightlifter Chaudhary had been living in a rented room in the house of weightlifting coach Sanjay Maharjan at Lubhu, Lalitpur. 


The 23-year-old Chaudhary, who was selected in the preliminary phase for the 19th Asian Games, had come to Kathmandu for closed-camp training.  Hailing from Banke, she had won the gold medal under 59 kg women’s category in the 13th South Asian Games held in Nepal in 2019.
