SAG wushu, karate teams off for training abroad

KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Wushu and karate teams left for training abroad on Friday for the final preparation of the 11th South Asian Games (SAG) to be held from January 29 to February 9 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. [break]



The 13-member wushu team left for Beijing, China, while the 17-member karate team went to Thailand´s capital Bangkok. Both the teams will return after a three-week training.



Among the 13 wushu players, Raju Maharjan, Angbabu Lama and Bikash Gurung are in the men´s thaulo event whereas Binita Maharjan and Sharmila Karanjit are in the women´s.



Likewise, players of the men´s san-sau section are Purushottam Rijal, Birsingh Tamang and Premchand Darlami and in the women´s san-sau are Jharana Gurung, Sami Lama and Elina Chaudhary.



Ganesh Aryal is the coach of san-sau and Prakash Lama is the thaulo coach.







Karate players who left for Bangkok in the men´s category are Binod Shakya (75 kg), Kushal Shrestha (66 kg), Binod Maharjan (60 kg) and Sunil Lama (55 kg). In the women´s category are Ganga Adhikari (61 kg) and Anu Adhikari (55 kg).



Kedar Bahadur Simkhada, Ganesh Bahadur Thing, Mandekaji Shrestha and Neer Bahadur Moktan are in the men´s team kata while the players selected in the women´s team kata are Subhadra Shrestha, Sangeeta Dangol, Chanchala Danuwar and Suman Lama. Parshuram Bastola is in the men´s single kata and Subhadra Shrestha in women´s single kata.



Hira Singh Dangol is the coache for kata while Deepak Shrestha is the coach for kukute.



NSC Vice President Pitambar Timilsina bade farewell to the wushu team while NSC Member Secretary Haribabu Chaudhary saw off the karate team.





Cricketers finalized for SAG



KATHMANDU, Jan 8: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has finalized an 18-member squad for the 11th South Asian Games (SAG) cricket, including four reserved players, from the closed camp training.



Gyanendra Malla will lead the Nepali team. Amrit Bhattarai, Chandra Saud, Binod Bhandari, Naresh Budhaair, Subash Khakurel, Sagar Pun, Prithu Baskota, Rupesh Sriwastav, Bhuwan Karki, Anil Kumar Mandal, Aakash Gupta, Amit Shrestha and Pradeep Aire are the other players.



Likewise, Anupam Singh, Lokendra Chand, Rom Shrestha and Pradeep Sapkota are the reserve players.



The selection committee under coordination of Arun Kumar Aryal selected the players. The SAG is scheduled to be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from January 29 to February 9.
