KATHMANDU, Jan 4: Nepal Students Union (NSU) on Monday submitted a memorandum to UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subas Nembang asking for their active support for helping draft new constitution on time.

A delegation led by NSU President Pradip Poudel submitted a four-point memorandum to Maoist Chairman Dahal at the party´s headquarters at Koteshwar. The delegation later went to Speaker Nembang to submit the memorandum urging timely drafting of the new constitution.

The Nepali Congress´ students body has floated four proposals to political parties. The students´ body has asked all political parties to devote at least 90 percent of their time to Constituent Assembly and constitution-drafting process and resolve the differences surfaced among various political parties on contentious issues through consensus at the earliest.

The NSU also asked the Maoists to let the court to pass its verdict over the case concerning the presidential move against the sacking of the then army chief, and give opportunity to the cantoned Maoists combatants to voluntarily choose between joining security forces or leading independent life.

NSU President Poudel said they are scheduled to meet top leaders of other parties including CPN-UML and NC to draw their attention to constitution-drafting process.

During the meeting, the Maoist chairman argued that the PLA management must be done as per the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA).

He said that it is necessary to fully abide by the CPA and other agreements reached between the then Seven Party Alliance (SPA) and the Maoists to conclude the ongoing peace and constitution-drafting processes.
