BHIMDUTTANAGAR, Aug 22: A woman has died after forcing her children to consume poison.
Basanti Chaudhary, 24, of Bhudaki of Belauri Municipality – 14 of Kanchanpur killed her daughter Jasmine Chaudhary, 7, and son Dipesh, 4, after a dispute with her husband Ramlal Chaudhary.
The police and the locals had rushed Basanti – who too consumed poison – to Seti Zonal Hospital in Dhangadi for treatment where she died on Sunday evening, District Police Office (DPO), Kanchanpur said.
The woman had taken her children to a sugarcane grove where she forced them to consume poison. The students after seeing Jasmine writhing in pain in the grove informed the villagers and the police. The son died at the site whereas the daughter died in course of treatment at Kolkata Health Post.
Ramlal Chaudhary fell unconscious after the death of three members of his family, Inspector Gindra Bogati of Area Police Office, Beldandi said. He is undergoing treatment at Mahakali Hospital.
Basanti reportedly gave a statement to the police claiming she committed the crime before her death. RSS
