SPORTS BRIEFS: Suraj, Pranav in final

KATHMANDU, Dec 23: Suraj Kumar Tamang and Pranav Khanal advanced into the final of the U-9 boys´ category in the Eighth Jaykar Junior National Open Tennis Tournament that kicked off on Wednesday at Little Angels´ Court, Hattiban. Suraj defeated Samyak Bhushan Bajracharya 10-3, 10-8 and Pranav ousted Hriddep Singh 10-6, 10-6. [break]



In the U-14 boys´ matches held at Satdobato Tennis Complex, Naresh Shrestha defeated Anukul Shrestha 8-1, Kumar Yadav downed Prakash Prasad 8-0, Avash Malla beat Aakash Rokka 8-5, Gaurav Prakash Shahi beat Deepankar Sherchan 8-6, Avishankhar Timilsina beat Mathew Rai 8-0, Kelvin Gurung beat Suyash Nahata 8-6, Pravin Rana beat Pravin Gurung 8-6, Sandesh Singh Rathaur beat Shishir Gurng 8-0, Avilash Khatri beat Kastup Jonchhan 8-0,David Tako beat Chiranjivi Lama 8-4, Prakash Sharma beat Deewas Shrestha 8-6, Avishek Bastola beat Bishal Shrestha 8-3, Abhay Gauchan beat Nitesh Kunwar 8-0 and Niraj Wagle beat Anubhav Shrestha 8-1.



In U-16 boys´ category, Chiranjivi Lama, Suman GC, Dishant Gurung, Anubhav Shrestha, Karan Chaudhary, Niraj Wagle, Milan Rokka, Achal Thapa and Sandesh Singh Rathaur advanced into the second round winning their respective first round matches.





Fishtail continue with lead



KATHMANDU, Dec 23: Fishtail Academy, Pokhara, continued their hold at the the top of points table with their unbeaten run in the ongoing Fourth Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women´s Double League Volleyball Tournament being held in New Bus Park, Kathmandu on Wednesday. Fishtail have collected 16 points from eight matches played.



Fishtail eased past PLA Sports Club 25-23, 25-23, 25-13 in straight sets on Wednesday.







Likewise, title holders Gyanu Baba won both the matches of the day. They had a comfortable 25-9, 25-13, 25-15 victory over New Diamond and in another they thrashed Deep Jyoti School 25-3, 25-7, 28-8. Gyanu Baba are in second place with 15 points wining seven out of eight matches played.



Deep Jyoti suffered their second loss of the day at the hands of Nepal Police Club as they were hammered 8-25, 7-25, 16-25. Angel Heart came in fourth spot with 13 points. They have won five and lost three matches. They eased past New Diamond 25-9, 25-23, 25-15.
