KATHMANDU, Dec 22: Trade unions have opposed the "No Work No Pay" policy that The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has come up with. [break]

The umbrella organisation of businessmen has introduced the policy saying bandas and strikes have caused disincentive to businesses.

We disagree with the concept of "No Work No Pay", said General Secretary of All Nepal Trade Union Federation Ganesh Regmi.

He said a stern agitation would be launched against entrepreneurs given that workers were not paid on the ground of their participation in protests.

Similar is the view of another trade union. Nepal Trade Union Congress (Independent) is against the policy, said its Vice-President Ganesh Prasad Niraula.

"It is the fault of industrialists not to open industries and factories during bandas," said Niraula. Nobody can snatch job of workers, he said, accusing the FNCCI of bring in the concept without any discussion.

On the other hand, FNCCI is adamant. The decision to cut the salary of workers who don´t work on particular days would be implemented, said FNCCI Vice-President Pradeep Jung Pandey.
