117 km of blacktopped roads added in six months of current FY

KATHMANDU, March 8: Over the course of the past six months in the current Fiscal Year (FY) 2023/24, a total of 117 kilometers of paved roads has been constructed.


According to the progress report on policy and major programs compiled by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers for the fiscal year 2023/24 till mid-January 2023, this period saw the addition of 117 kilometers of two-lane and four-lane roads.

As per the office's data, the total length of black-topped roads under the federal government stood at 17,692 kilometers up to mid-July of the fiscal year 2022/23. However, by mid-January of the current fiscal year 2023/24, this figure had increased to 17,785 kilometers of two-lane roads.


During the six months of the current fiscal year, 93 kilometers of two-lane blacktop roads have been added. Similarly, 24 kilometers of four-lane black-paved roads have been added during the current 6-month period. At present, the total length of the four-lane road under the federal government is 168.7 km.


The government has set a target of completing 18,492 kilometers of two-lane roads by the end of the current fiscal year and 294.7 km of four-lane roads by the end of the current fiscal year.


Additionally, construction of 34 new bridges have been completed during the same period. As of now, there are 3,225 bridges under the federal government, compared to 3,191 bridges at the end of the previous year. The government aims to complete the construction of 3,341 bridges by the end of the current fiscal year.
