KATHMANDU, June 19: Fresh flash flood triggered by a heavy rainfall in Helambu Rural Municipality of Sindhupalchowk district has swept away a school and a police station building.

According to Arjun Bhandari, Secretary at Helambu Rural Municipality, the East Point Academy at Gyalthum and Area Police Station of Helambu at Kuel were swept away by a massive flood on Friday night. “Water level of the Melamchi River was much higher than that of June 16,” Bhandari added.

A school in Talamarang has also suffered some destruction following Friday night’s flood.

Meanwhile, areas near Melamchi River like Timbu, Kuel, Chanaute, Gyalthum, Talamarang and Melamchi are still at a high risk of flood and landslide.

Hundreds of ropanis of cultivable land have been converted into sandbank and the loss of properties caused due to flood is estimated to be in billions.
