KATHMANDU, Oct 13: The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has barred people other than passengers from entering the airport premises.

The decision follows an increased flow of passengers at the airport as it resumed scheduled air services starting September. Passengers’ relatives who come to pick up or drop them off at the airport can form a crowd and intensify the spread of COVID-19, airport authorities said.

Issuing a statement, Nepal’s sole international airport has requested all passengers to avoid bringing or calling relatives at the airport. The airport however, has allowed one person to tag along with senior citizens or differently-abled people inside the airport premises.

All passengers are required to abide by the health guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Population. “Wearing masks and sanitizing frequently are some of them,” the statement read.

Nepal has lifted the suspension of international flights from September 1 whereas domestic flights resumed from September 21.
