KATHMANDU, Oct 10: The government has urged senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC to withdraw his 19th hunger strike.
Issuing a press statement, the government representatives said that the demands presented by Dr KC are in the process of being implemented, urging Dr KC to withdraw his fast-unto-death.
“The government is committed to expanding medical education and providing accessible health services across the country,” reads the statement.
“The construction of physical infrastructures of Geta Medical College and its hospital is already completed. Likewise, other infrastructures are in the final phase of the construction,” according to the government representatives.
The government has also concluded that other demands of Dr KC are being implemented.
Dr KC has been staging a hunger strike demanding reforms in the country’s medical education sector.
The talks between the government and Dr Govinda KC on Friday failed after Minister for Education Giriraj Mani Pokharel allegedly turned down some of the key agreements reached between the talks teams of the two sides.
