KATHMANDU, March 23: Ten women who were forced into prostitution in India have been rescued on Thursday.

The ten victims of human trafficking, including teenage girls and women from different districts of Nepal, were kept forcefully in a flat in Kishangadh area of New Delhi, the capital of India, for sex trade.

They were rescued in a joint operation by Nepal Police, Anti Human Trafficking Bureau, Nepali Embassy, Keen India, Shakti Group and Delhi Police.

The rescue operation was carried out with the code name  Mission Flat. The rescued women were handed over to the Anti Human Trafficking Bureau of Nepal Police. The ages of the rescued women range from 15 to 25 years. They are said to be from Nuwakot, Kathmandu, Kaski, Khotang and other districts.

One of the rescued women said that she was taken to New Delhi saying that she will get a good job but after reaching there, she was forced into sex trade.

Nepal Police SSP Uma Kanta Chaturvedi stationed at the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi says the mission started after the Kaski District Police Office reported the disappearance of four young women from Pokhara to the embassy via Nepal Police Headquarters.

SSP Chaturvedi said that while coordinating with the Shakti Group, Keen India and the local police, the Shakti Group found one of the four missing girls.  The girl gave the location of the remaining three missing girls, and a joint operation was launched in which  seven more Nepali girls were rescued from the flat.

According to the information obtained from the preliminary investigation, it has been found that Tikaram Bhandari and his wife Tika Oli used to keep the girls in a flat in New Delhi and engaged them in sex trade.

Their associates in Nepal used to bring the Nepali women to New Delhi under the pretext of giving them good jobs in India.
