Xmas MUN as a ‘cherry on top’ for this Christmas

In the freezing weather full of festive vibes for Christmas, Pokhara was dizzying with tourists all around. The aroma of mouthwatering cuisines heated up the environment and the whole city danced in the sparkles of alluring lights. Wait, how exciting will it be if I mention that a ‘diplomatic discussion’ featuring 180 delegates from 25 schools and colleges of 7 different states of the nation took place in this majestic site? Yes, I am talking about Xmas MUN (Model United Nations) 2018 that was like a cherry on top for this year’s Christmas in Pokhara!

Xmas MUN, divided in 4 committees; The Security Council, Disarmament and International Security (DISEC), United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), and United Nations Human Right Council (UNHRC), has been successfully organized by a bunch of enthusiastic youths. The event was organized  from December 23 to 26 in Lakeside Pokhara. With a welcoming opening ceremony on December 23 at Hotel Snowland, the executive board members introduced and enhanced the concept of MUN procedures to the new and exuberant delegates. The hype for the program was maintained by the expressive hosting of Shruti Duraili. On the other hand, the Secretary General for the event, Paribesh Bidari expressed his insights on the importance of platforms like MUN to develop the understanding of diplomacy, international relations, and global affairs to the students. The official committee sessions were held from December 24 to 25.

The efforts from the delegates were quite appreciable. They represented different countries and discussed on various issues. However, coming to the context of a fairer competition, Jyoti Pandey, Abhishek Pradhan, Shreya Jain and Shasank Chaudhary were awarded as the best delegates of Security Council, DISEC, UNEP and UNHRC respectively. Similarly, Raghav Maheshwori, Sabina Ranabhat, Anukul Rijal and Isha Niroula were recognized as the Outstanding Delegate of Security council, DISEC, UNEP and UNHRC respectively.

The closing ceremony was held on December 25. Education Minister of the Gandaki Province, Nardevi Pun was the Chief Guest of the event. Her encouraging words aspired both the delegates and the organizing committee to add up onsuch platforms in the future. This will help generating larger scale of diplomatic and analytical youths for the country. Likewise, the Chairman of Xmas MUN, Sudarshan Subedi thanked all the participants for making the initiative a mega hit and assured to come up with many opportunities like this in the coming days.
