Visual artist Reeta Manandhar receives prestigious Fine Art Award for her painting ‘Sunyata’

KATHMANDU, June 11: Reeta Manandhar, a prominent visual artist based in Kathmandu, has recently captivated art enthusiasts with her thought-provoking exhibition at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts organized by the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). The highlight of the show was her remarkable painting titled ‘Sunyata’,which roughly translates to ‘void’, that earned her the prestigious Lalit Kala Bisesh Puraskar (Fine Art Special Award).

Having completed her Masters in Fine Arts (MFA) in Painting from Tribhuvan University, Manandhar who has always been inspired by nature and her rich cultural heritage, showcased her profound talent and introspection through her 91cmx122cm acrylic on canvas masterpiece. ‘Sunyata’, created during her personal journey of self-discovery, depicts the interconnectedness of humanity and the omnipresent energy that encompasses us all.

Mananadhar believes that all individuals are unified by a supreme power that pervades the universe. According to her, this energy exists both within and outside our physical beings, and she encapsulates this concept as "Sunyata."

In the painting, Manandhar skillfully captures the flow of the supreme energy, symbolizing oneness and equality. The presence of a conch, often associated with rituals and special occasions, signifies the commencement of this journey. The sound of the conch serves as a reminder of the inherent energy within us all. The colors she employs, predominantly blue and green, represent peace, love, and compassion.

Manandhar has made significant contributions to the art world, with five solo exhibitions under her belt and participation in numerous national and international group exhibitions. She recently took part in the esteemed Solo Art Camp in Indonesia in 2022. Moreover, she has had the privilege of being part of prestigious events such as the SAARC Artist Camp in the Maldives and the Artist in Residence Programme hosted by the Asian Art Museum in Japan. Throughout her career, she has been recognized by various art organizations and institutions for her remarkable talent and artistic achievements.

The National Exhibition of Fine Arts, where Manandhar's award-winning painting is showcased, is taking place from May 29 to June 13 at NAFA and the Nepal Art Council, attracting art enthusiasts from near and far.

Manandhar's profound creations continue to inspire viewers and shed light on the introspective journey of self-discovery, leaving an indelible mark on the contemporary art scene. Her art traverses boundaries, inviting viewers to reflect on their own existence and explore the depths of their inner worlds.
