Shamshera: Ranbir Kapoor plays a befitting warrior to a menacing Sanjay Dutt in a visually stunning teaser

The first teaser of Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt's highly anticipated film 'Shamshera' is here and it is simply stunning.

Leaving history to the books, director Karan Malhotra takes creative liberties as he ventures with his stars into a dystopian setting to give us a story fit for a 'legend'.

The clip that is just over a minute long, gives us flashing glimpses of Ranbir Kapoor in action as the legendary dacoit warrior who keeps watch on his tribe and defends them from the merciless British army. Riding in the wilderness and swinging his axe, this lone warrior is faced with an equally intimidating and menacing general, played by Sanjay Dutt, who poses the biggest threat to his people.

Packed with stunning visual effects, over-the-top action sequences, and dialogues that pack a punch, the full-length trailer is set to release on 24th June.

Talking about his role as a dacoit, Ranbir said in a statement to PTI, "'Shamshera' is not a story of a 'daaku', but a film based in the 1800s, it is about a dacoit tribe who are fighting for their right and independence from the British. There was a great story of heroism, a story rooted in our country which actually happened back then."

Talking about his excitement to sign on for the film that is starkly different from his usual love stories, he said, "It is a departure from the kind of films I have done, it is not the coming-of-age lover boy roles which I have done often. 'Shamshera' is in the aspirational space, the space of true, badass commercial cinema."

Besides the action, 'Shamshera' is also set to have an element of romance. The hunk told the news agency, "A true blue Hindi film has everything- comedy, action, romance drama. And all these films I am doing are all in that direction, we are trying to have all these factors in it."
