Indian Congress leader and Bollywood actor Raj Babbar was handed down two years of imprisonment by MP and MLA Special Court in Lucknow on Thursday in a case of physical assault against a polling officer 26 years ago.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 8,500 on him. Although the court has given interim bail, he must appear in the court within 30 days. Babbar was present in the courtroom during the announcement of the verdict. He said that he will go to the Supreme Court against the verdict.
On May 2, 1996, the polling officer, Krishna Singh Rana filed a complaint against Raj Babbar, Arvind Yadav and other people claiming that they had barged into the voting booth and mistreated and assaulted Rana during his duty. Babbar was a candidate in the election held at that time.
