World’s first-ever Asparagus Vodka launched

A London-based distillery has recently launched an unconventional vodka, which has been made using asparagus. The producers of this vodka claim that it went from farm to bottle in less than a week. Being marketed as British Asparagus Vodka, only 600 bottles of this spirit have been released to the on- and off-trade.

How was it made?

Portobello Road Distillery, the producers of this vodka claims that “the asparagus was steeped for 24 hours in British Potato Vodka before being bottled in a limited run of 600 bottles each time”. And the asparagus was sourced from Portwood Farm in Norfolk. The distillery also claims that it is a vegan vodka that features no filtration or additives. The distillery earlier tried to make an asparagus-based gin, which didn’t work out well and so it wasn’t launched.

Tasting notes

According to the distillery, the vodka has an ‘earthiness and nuttiness’ in its flavour coming with a vegetal note that ‘lives long on the palate’. On having a sip of this vodka, one can have a feeling of ‘freshness, softness and creaminess’.

The pricing

This British Asparagus Vodka has been priced at US$30.14 (RRP £24) and rests at 42 per cent ABV.
