Mock UN general assembly at Kanjirowa
Kanjirowa National Secondary School replicated a Model United Nations General Assembly at the school premises on December 15.
According to the press statement released by Kanjirowa, students from Grade VIII to X performed their roles as the delegates of UN member states and discussed on various current international affairs relevant to the world during the academic simulation of the United Nations.
The program was attended by Public Affairs Officer of US Embassy in Nepal, Tristram Perry, as the chief guest and National Information Officer of UN office in Nepal, Ram Babu Shah, as special guest.
It added that the participants were divided into six different agencies and committees where each representative presented a ‘Draft Resolution’ which was followed by contentions as representatives from various member states took positions for and against the draft resolutions.
The issues were about protecting the rights of indigenous population, use of traditional medicines, impact of climate change in world heritage sites, involvement of youths and women in government, combating terrorism and sustainable tourism for development, according to the press statement.
The statement added that Shah commended the students’ performance and said, “The students conceptualize the provision and working procedures of the UN’s General Assembly, while their performance has reached new heights in terms of language, delivery, subject matter, research and debating skills.”
He also praised Kanjirowa’s holistic approach in education and said, “The UN Office in Nepal would collaborate with Kanjirowa in various program in recent future.” Executive Director Mahendra Khanal highlighted KNS MUN as an opportunity for experimental learning about the procedures and functions of the UN General Assembly.
