Miss Universe Nepal 2020 Anshika Sharma, established Anshika Education Welfare Foundation with an aim of quality education for all. Anshika used her Miss Universe Nepal 2020 winning prize money, Rs 1,000,000 to support the foundation with its interest from fixed deposit.
According to a press statement released by Miss Universe Nepal, the fund will be used for school fees, clothes, curricular materials, nutritious food, accommodation, travel, medicinal support for girls' health-related issues, and other primary requirements to access quality education. In the future, the Foundation also aims to encourage facilities such as toilets and clean drinking water and skill training for students.
Around mid-February, Anshika visited her hometown Jhapa to establish her Foundation and relation with the schools there. After visiting schools and interacting with the children in the area, she has selected 14 underprivileged children from 4 different schools who were on the verge of dropping out due to poor economic conditions. She believes someday these children will go on to achieve their dreams and create the same opportunity for more underprivileged youth and contribute to society.
For now, Anshika has chosen Jhapa, her hometown, as the foundation’s area of work. Her advocacy, ‘quality education for all,’ aims to uplift underprivileged children from minorities, orphanages, and also ones with disabilities.
