Veteran group, Lekali Pariwar aka Lekali Samuha performed for the August rendition of Paleti, Nepalaya’s micro musical program. The session was held at Nepalaya’s ‘r’ sala, Kalikasthan from August 30 to September 1.

The group performed 14 of their composed Lekali tunes. This is the group’s performance after 48 years. Before Paleti, Lekali Pariwar performed in 1971.

The session started from the song, ‘Lahara Pahara Chahara Ko Desh’. While starting to play the third song ‘Ralfa’, Ganesh Rasik (one of the members of Lekali Pariwar) shared about his moments of moving to Kathmandu from Bhojpur and meeting Hiranya Bhojpure (another member of the group) before performing ‘Hussule Chopeko Sahar’.

The program further followed to the numbers like ‘Khola Ko Tirma’ and ‘Kafal Pakyo’. During the session, Bhojpure commented on the conditions of Nepali music production. “Nepali music is made in classical, western and folk tunes. Songs made on classical and western genres were labeled as modern ones but ours’ weren’t called so. We had a concept that our music should also be considered the modern ones.”

“We took the words from the place we were born and made a song on it. People recognized those ballads as a folk genre of music which gave us a name in the Nepali music scene,” Rasik shared with adding to the statement made by Bhojpure.

Lekali Pariwar’s session had supports from Dinesh Regmi on keyboard, Sandesh Maharjan on tabla, Suraj Pradhan on guitar, Sundar Maharjan on percussion, and Balaram Samal on basuri. Meena Niraula, who has been associated with Paleti for a long time, was also as the vocal support to the group.

Founded in the mid-60s, the group consisting Ganesh Rasik, Hiranya Bhojpure, Urmila Shrestha, Nirmala Shrestha, Sashi Bhandari, Indra Narayan Manandhar, Kamala Shrestha and Nabin Kishor, has provided evergreen lekali tunes like ‘Lahara Pahara’, ‘Kafal Pakyo’, ‘Tyamke Danda’ and many more.
