KATHMANDU, Nov 4: If you are into the web series produced on Colleges Nepal’s YouTube Channel, you are probably familiar with Jibesh Singh Gurung. Born and raised in Pokhara, Gurung is the captain of the ship for the web series, Colleges Nepal. He not only works as an actor but he also directs and casts the actors for the same.

Though he was supposed to work on the directorial aspect of the web series, he had to work as an actor too. Gurung shared, “Initially, I was supposed to work as a director in web series.  But later I had to work as an actor too. Although I was not ready for acting, I had to do it as I could not find an actor fit for the role in the web series. Moreover, we were in a rush to broadcast the web series. Later, I got a positive response from the audience. They liked my acting and so I continued to act.” 

In the early days of his career, he worked at radio stations in Pokhara. He continued his working prowess with Capital FM, Kathmandu. In due course of time, he was dissatisfied at working in media sector and quit. 
He went for a job interview at IT Training Nepal as a counselor. But after looking at his CV, they offered him to work in a new media-related project. At first, he had made up his mind not to restart his media career. But after learning about the project’s unique content, he decided to collaborate with them.

According to Gurung, Colleges Nepal was making videos related to the college. Ultimately, they started making the web series. It was targeted at the youth. Social issues were regularly raised. Later, it garnered much admiration by viewers as they responded very warmly.

Now, he loves his new job. He credits the creativity and flexibility of the project. Moreover, he cannot imagine himself doing a 10 to 5 office job.  He adds, “Web series has fame and good income like an average job holder’s income in Nepal. Yes, of course the small name and fame counts.”

However, during the shoot of the series, he also faced a number of challenges. “Once we serve quality contents, viewers have more expectation from us. With limited resources and budget, we are maintaining our content. Also, it’s quite difficult to find a quality technician for web Series. However, I have come across a couple of good web series team.  But, they are very few in number and their production value is so expensive,” he says. 

Besides his web series, Gurung is also a good musician. He also has a personal YouTube channel with over 30 thousands subscribers. Covering different songs, he also has uploaded his own composition like ‘Timro Saath’. Apart from being a fine singer, he also has penned down and composed the music for the song. He recently completed bachelor in journalism. He looks forward to pursuing his further studies soon. He yearns to enhance his career in music, acting and direction.
