Diabetes control: Onion keeps the blood sugar level in check. It contains chromium that stimulates the activity and regulation of beta cells in the body. Beta cells are responsible for the production of insulin. When there is enough insulin in the body, sugar can be readily converted into energy or other useful products.

Antioxidant property:  Onions are rich in antioxidants- the compound that inhibits oxidation and prevents diseases like cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.  One of the prominent antioxidant contained by onion is quercetin, a potent anti-inflammatory compound. The outer layers of an onion contain substances with high antioxidant properties.

Improved Immune System: Onions contain selenium, a mineral that balances the body’s immune system.  According to the body’s need, it boosts as well as prevents excessive immune response. If immune cells lack selenium, they can’t develop and multiply efficiently.

Detoxification: Onions are a rich source of sulfur- a compound that helps to remove toxins and heavy metals from the body.
