Demand for disabled-friendly structure

GULARIYA (Bardiya), June 28: The Bardiya Disabled Rehabilitation Center has demanded the construction of disabled-friendly structure in district-based government bodies.

Lack of disabled-friendly infrastructure in the government bodies has caused inconvenience to the people with physical disabilities, the center said. They are always not able to visit the service providing bodies or have to take assistants due to lack of disabled-friendly infrastructure there.

Though the government unveiled the Accessible Physical Structure and Communication Service Directive for People with Disabilities, 2013 with a view of making daily lives of the disabled easier, it is yet to be fully enforced.

The center Monday submitted a memorandum to Chief District Officer Bishnu Bahadur Thapa, demanding the construction of disabled-friendly structure in the District Administration Office, District Development Committee, District Education Office and Women and Children Office.

Receiving the memo, CDO Thapa pledges to take initiatives to address the demand. RSS
