"I will get that promotion", "I will complete my postgraduate degree", "I will call it quits if I don't get a raise", "I will go out and network"—there are plenty of career goals you can set to move your career to a good direction.

If you actually stick to these resolutions, they will significantly help you grow professionally. We talked to six officer-goers about their career resolutions for 2016. Here's what they shared.

Rojina KC
Communications Officer, Patanjali Ayurveda Pvt Ltd

I enjoy my job because communications has always been my forte. This year, I'm looking forward to improving my networking skills even though my network of people is quite good. I believe we should all work on shaping our potential into something good and concrete. I'm an open and friendly person and I know that there's a lot of scope for my line of work. Networking is important for every kind of career. Patanjali is an established brand. Currently, I'm focused on promoting the brand more and I'm always busy interacting with clients and media which means I'm continuously working toward my career resolution.

Dipesh Khanal
President, Robotics Association of Nepal

My ultimate goal in life is to own and manage a hydro power plant. So whatever I'm doing today is to make that dream a reality. It's just been a month that I've been promoted to be the President of RAN which is a two-year tenure. I'm trying to learn everything I can about the managerial position. Being the President comes with its own pressures. Earlier, I would look to my seniors during the decision making process but now I have people looking to me. I have a completely new team with me and I'll be doing a lot of things myself during the next couple of months while they find their way around. I'll also be completing my MBA degree this July which, along with my engineering background, should help me achieve my dream.

Bikash Karki,
Sr Brand Officer, Sujal Foods Pvt Ltd

In over three years of my association with Sujal Foods, I have experienced high level of job satisfaction. The work atmosphere here is really positive, so besides continuing to learn from my work every day, I plan to become more organized in 2016. I want to specially focus on honing my time management skills. I don't while away my time doing nothing, but I tend to lose track of time when I take up a task. What happens is, even if the task at hand isn't that important, I end up investing significant amount of time on it, hence allocating little time for something else that is far more important. As my job concerns more about marketing, I also see myself working really hard to enhance my marketing skills. I would like to network with more people, too. Most importantly, I am going to keep myself healthy and fit, because as clichéd as it is, health definitely is wealth.

Rashmi Agrawal
PR Manager, Kaymu

My career resolution for 2016 is to learn and continue learning. That's just one of my career goals. I will not limit myself to my area of expertise but try my hands on everything that's worth pursuing. The objective is to come out of my comfort zone and experiment with new ideas, go above and beyond my role of a PR professional. Maintaining a strong professional network will also be a priority and I'll probably focus on attending more events/parties this year. Another definite resolution is to keep my blog up-to-date. I hope I end the year by being a better person and excelling in whatever I do.

Tenzin Tseten Bhutia
Fashion Designer

This is going to be a busy year for me. My major plans are to establish my brand abroad and also to have some shows in different countries. The plan for the fashion shows were originally intended for last year but the earthquake was a huge setback and I'm hoping we can take it up again this year. I also hope to get in some international fashion shows. As for launching my brand overseas, customers from the UK will be able to buy designs there by the end of January. Next in line will be Hong Kong and then Australia. Initially, my target customers there are the Nepali crowd for whom I will have a fusion clothing line. That's because Nepalis are still not open to the idea of buying designer wear from Nepal except for traditional clothes. So my line will have a mixed style of western and traditional wear.

Leena Manandhar
Trainee Assistant, NIC Asia Bank

In a week from now, I'll complete a year of my stint as a trainee assistant here, so I'll be promoted to the post of an assistant. I look forward to another year of learning by doing at the bank. Currently I'm taking a gap year after completing my Bachelor's in Business Administration, so one of my biggest resolutions is to join Master's this year while continuing to work here. I would like to expand my network, too, and do something else besides banking—like volunteer, or pick up a hobby—just for the sake of it. They say sitting is the new smoking, and since mine is mostly a desk job, I have vowed to take care of my health and mostly walk and stretch as and when I have the time.

Dr Pranav Raj Joshi
Vet for your pet

I started the year by bringing in some machines which is like a milestone for the small animal practices in the country. I wanted my clinic to be upgraded so I got these machines from China. Now we have an electrocautery machine which prevents bleeding during operations, six infusion heaters which will infuse warm saline into the animals, and 12 heating pads which will assist during recovery for the animals. I will also continue to work on animal birth control program for street dogs through my organization, Bhaktapur Animal Welfare Shelter. Another plan is to work on a bigger scale to increase community awareness on responsible pet ownership.
