Pakistani coach Younis's remark about Nepali team came after Nepal faced 121-run defeat against Pakistan at Abu Dhabi, in the UAE. Nepal scored 205/5 against Pakistan's 326/6 in the 50-over match.Younis praised Nepali team, suggesting the way the batsmen stood up to Pakistan's vaunted bowlers was evidence of the advance Nepal cricket is making.
"I think this game speaks for them," said coach Younis as quoted by thenational.ae, a news portal of the UAE. "Not only this, but I was part of the commentary team last time for the World Twenty20 qualifier, and Nepal players they all looked really competitive," he added.
"It is obviously a different story playing against a full member, it is a little bit tougher, but they still fight. They have a lot to prove when they play against a bigger side. It is a great incentive and I think they will have learnt a lot from it," said former Pakistan international Younis, who bagged 373 wickets in Tests and 416 wickets in 262 ODIs for Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Nepali team Coach Pubudu Dassanayake said that the match against Pakistan was confidence booster for Nepal players.
"The match helped Nepali players to boost confidence. Everyone at the top order batted 50 to 70 balls against the best team in the world. That confidence will give as a boost us for the next few months," said Sri Lanka born Canadian national Dassanayake, who played 11 Tests and 16 ODIs for Sri Lanka.
Coach Dassanayake will, probably, be with the Nepali team for two List A matches (50-over) against Papua New Guinea in the second round of ICC World Cricket League Championship.
Nepal will face PNG on November 16 and 18 in the UAE, but before that Nepal is scheduled to play 50-over matches against Danube Cricket Club on Wednesday and Oman on Saturday.
